Reading the ping-by-hop results

The tool pings three things: your own router, your DNS server, and AGN. Reading them together tells you where the trouble begins - inside your house, on your line, or beyond it. A bad reading at your router means there is no point looking further out yet.

What you see

  • Actions happen a moment after you do them
  • Your character snaps back to where it was
  • Voice breaks up while the game itself looks fine
  • Disconnects that cluster at certain times of day

What usually causes it

  • Wi-Fi interference, distance from the router, or a congested 2.4 GHz band
  • A router that is overloaded, overheating, or needs restarting
  • A congested or degraded line from the ISP
  • Something else on the same connection saturating it, such as a large download or another device streaming

Worth checking first

  • Read the rows in order: your router first, then DNS, then AGN. Where the numbers first go bad is where the problem starts
  • Loss or jitter at YOUR ROUTER means the trouble is inside your home, and nothing beyond it is worth judging until that is fixed
  • Clean at the router but bad at AGN points at the line or the route, not your equipment
  • Clean everywhere during the test does not disprove a problem that comes and goes - run it again while it is actually happening

Safe steps, one at a time

  • If the router row is bad: move closer to it, switch to 5 GHz, or use a cable. A cable for ten minutes is the fastest way to prove whether Wi-Fi is the cause
  • Restart the router if it has been up for weeks
  • Pause other large downloads and check whether anyone else on the connection is streaming
  • If only the AGN row is bad and your router is clean, send the report with the times it happens - that pattern is what we need
  • Jitter matters more than raw latency for voice. A steady 90 ms is far more pleasant to play on than an average of 40 ms that swings

These are suggestions, not instructions. Do only what you are comfortable with, back up anything important first, and stop if a step does not match what is on your screen. Advice, risk and responsibility.

When to stop and ask staff

Escalate when the router and DNS rows are clean and only the AGN row is bad, especially if several players report it in the same window.

Unknown — needs staff review

What staff will need

  • The ping rows for all hops, as the tool prints them
  • Whether the PC is on Wi-Fi or a cable
  • Times of day it happens
  • Whether other devices on the same connection have trouble

Applies to

Independent of AGN version.
